
Bustling market towns and sleepy villages, rolling hills and beautiful
gardens, picturesque harbours and wild moorland make up the delightful region of North
Devon.
The Hotel
The Royal & Fortescue Hotel is our base for this five day tour; the hotel retains much
of its old world character and charm but with all the conveniences of a modern hotel. The
hotel was a former coaching inn and is situated in the centre of Barnstable. All bedrooms
are en-suite & the lift provides access to all floors.
Itinerary
MONDAY We depart from our homes travelling to North Devon, arriving late
afternoon.
TUESDAY Today we travel through scenic Exmoor to the twin towns of Lynton
and Lynmouth, known as the little Switzerland of England. The Victorians made holiday
centres of the towns and opened a cliff railway in 1 890 to connect Lynmouth to Lynton,
creating some stunning views. After Lunch we will head for llfracombe, which is a lovely
little town.
WEDNESDAY We will have the Morning and lunch in Exeter which has a
magnificent two tower cathedral and many other attractions. In the afternoon we will make
our way back to the hotel, over Dartmoor with its wonderful views and picturesque
villages.
THURSDAY In the morning we will have a visit to Bideford which nestles
alongside the River Torridge and is a thriving market town and port. The afternoon will be
free so that you can have time in Barnstaple for all your last minute shopping and to look
around this lovely little town.
FRIDAY After breakfast we bid farewell to Devon and make our way back to
Norfolk.
